Theme: The Show Must Go On

This post almost didn’t make it here alive… [Pause for dramatic effect.] No, really. It represents a ruined surprise party turned party of the year. It’s Frankenstein’s monster. This post is basically the equivalent of the comeback boy bands as a happening thing. Let us explain.

A long time ago (like two months or something) we had plans to put out this amazing online fashion magazine. We envisioned epic editorials, chic DIYs, and pop culture articles, all smashed into one easy-to-download package. It turns out that it’s tough having jobs, social lives, TV shows to keep up with and a magazine to top it all off. We started missing our own deadlines, procrastinating meetings, and nearly threw the whole idea away.

Then lightning struck-- we got the idea to take our vision and turn it into a blog. VOILA, V is for Velvet.  Sometimes, things just don’t go according to plan. Your day at the beach becomes a day staring at the rain on the window. Your cake burns. Your something good turns into something bad.  That’s when it’s time to start again, reinvent yourself, and grab an umbrella. Back in action, this idea inspired our monthly theme:

The Show Must Go On.

Your life is happening, all the time, whether you’re ready for it or not, and it won’t always go to plan. When the going gets tough, the tough change their outfits accordingly and then get going. (What? That’s a real saying.) This bring-it-on sense of grandeur is everywhere, from theatre, to music, to your closet.

A Little Kick-Starter
Dress: H&M / Link , Jacket: Simons / Link , Clutch: Call it Spring / Link , Shoes: LuLu's / Link ,
Spike Bracelet: Forever21 / Link , Black Cuff: Forever 21 / Link

It’s the perfect framework to highlight the bold, bright days of summer waiting in the wings. Summer isn’t time to hide. It’s high time to go with the flow, break out of your shell and bring big dramatic flair to larger than life good times.

This month we’ll be bringing you styles for the rising temperatures and content to prep you for the exciting days ahead, no matter what they hold. Expect a bit of everything from trend reports on 50s inspired threads and neon to a silver screen soiree how-to. Are you ready? Let’s put on a show.

  1. Nice blog - keep up the fashion fun. :)

I am writing because, although my daughter is a sharp dresser with excellent fashion sense, unfortunately she tends to leave her shoes by the front door. Much to the consternation of her mother and me. Do you have any DIY projects that she might be able to use to better organize her shoes. You know the drill: Lots of shoes / Little room.

    Sartorially yours,

PS .. oh yeah and purses too.

  2. Very fun blog! makes me feel like putting on my hot pink heels at work :)

to -OO-, perhaps you and your daughter could make the following shoe rack. It could be a good father/daughter bonding trip to the hardwear store, and help eliminate some of the shoe congestion at your front door
